Penn Hills Library

We were initially retained to provide a feasibility study with design alternatives to provide an addition & renovation of the existing 11,000 square foot Library located on a site adjacent to Linton Middle School which proved to be infeasible. When a 6 acre parcel was donated by former local developer William E. Anderson we were hired to design a new 30,000 sq. ft. library facility. The project was designed both as a library and community center which include a children’s and adult libraries, and public meeting rooms, site elements originally included an amphitheater, community gardens, and path to the nearby Linton Middle School intended to reinforce a potential after school program.

While not LEED rated the building was sustainably designed featuring extensive natural light, heated floor slabs, and energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems. Bid to 4 separate prime contractors the project was completed with a budget that we established following schematic design. The project had a variety of delays related and it was about 10 years before the new building was completed in late 2006.
