Our approach is simple. Identify the problem, design a solution, exceed expectations. From project conception to completion, our definition of success is yours.
The Firm was established in 1990 when Mark McCormick and former partner Janet McCarthy acquired the Pittsburgh Office of Oliver Design Group, a subsidiary of former National Real Estate Company, Grubb & Ellis that specialized in corporate interiors.
Over the past 27 years, the award winning firm has had the privilege to partner with great clients on a wide variety of project types, valuing relationships grounded in trust and mutual respect, all the while maintaining true to core values: commitment to service & design excellence.
We currently specialize in office interiors & office buildings. Our approach is to respond to client goals and objectives with pragmatic, affordable design solutions that exceed expectations.
Mark vigorously represents his client’s interests providing personal service from project inception through completion. While his projects have received 26 local, state, and national design awards, he learned early on that service in and of itself is the greatest reward.
After obtaining a BA in Psychology/Philosophy from Miami University of Ohio in 1973 he moved to Denver with the intention of returning to graduate school in a year or two. There he worked for three years as a carpenter before entering graduate school and obtained a Masters Degree in Architecture in 1979.
Mark was hired by the prominent firm of Barker Rinker Seacat & Partners in 1980 and became a Partner in 1984. After his marriage to Pittsburgh native Karen Meyers in 1986 his interest in Pittsburgh grew and he took a two year leave of absence to assume the position of City Architect for the City of Pittsburgh in 1987. After the birth of their first son in 1988, it was clear that Pittsburgh was home. Mark was hired by Grubb & Ellis to run the Pittsburgh Office of Oliver Design Group in 1989.
Doug has been with the firm from the beginning. With a laser-precision focus on space planning and interior design, Doug brings more than 40 years of unparalleled experience in designing office interiors.
After attending Penn State’s School of Architecture for two years, Doug returned to Pittsburgh. In 1974, Doug joined Oliver Design Group, working exclusively on office interiors, primarily in support of leasing agents and property management.
Doug has more than 20 years of experience with the financial services industry, beginning in 1996 when the firm was retained by First Union Securities to provide full-service design & execution of branch offices through-out the country, later followed by Wachovia Securities (2001-2009) and Wells Fargo Advisors (2009-present).

“Mark puts his heart and soul into every project we work on together. In 2000, he designed our beautiful 103,000 sq ft national headquarters office building and offices. We updated our space in 2015. Once again, Mark provided his personal and professional touch to provide excellent guidance in completing our “new space” on time and within budget.”

“McCormick Architects has been a joy to work with throughout our new headquarters facility project.
The firm was originally chosen for its sensitivity and creativity. It was not until we sat at each weekly construction meeting did we realize how vast your expertise and knowledge existed on every aspect of building a building. I feel very strongly that our project achieved a very high level of quality, to which we aspired, directly because of McCormick Architects.
In addition to professionalism, the firm has exhibited a very high level of personal commitment. We had high expectations when we selected McCormick, and I can say now that the level of service provided exceeded our expectations.”
